NimbleCal is local-first, which is great for reliability. But it also means you should treat backups as a habit, especially before big changes.
The easiest backup: export an .ics file
The most portable backup format is iCalendar (.ics).
What gets exported?
ICS export includes the standard calendar event fields (like titles, times, locations, notes, recurrence, and reminders). Some app-specific settings (like theme and view preferences) are not part of the iCalendar format.
When you should export a backup
Export first if you're about to:
- Clear browser storage / site data
- Move to a new computer or browser profile
- Do a big import (so you have a rollback point)
- Make lots of edits you can't easily undo
Restoring from a backup
To restore, import the .ics file back into NimbleCal:
- Import from Google Calendar (the import steps apply to any
.icsfile) - Troubleshooting imports
Heads up: imports can create duplicates
If you import the same backup more than once, you'll likely see duplicate events. If you're unsure, import into a new calendar first so it's easy to clean up.
