NimbleCal supports event reminders via browser notifications.

Step 1: Enable notifications

  1. In the app, open Settings.
  2. Under Notifications, click Enable notifications.
  3. If you want, click Send test notification to confirm everything works.

If notifications are blocked, your browser will show "Notifications are blocked" and you'll need to enable them in your browser settings.

Step 2: Add reminders to an event

  1. Create a new event (or open an existing one).
  2. In the event editor, scroll to Reminders.
  3. Click Add and choose a reminder time (or a custom reminder).
  4. Save the event.

Snooze reminders

When a reminder notification appears, you can snooze it right from the notification:

  • Snooze 5m
  • Snooze 15m

Clicking the notification itself opens the event in NimbleCal.

Just like reminders, snoozes are local. For the snoozed reminder to fire reliably, keep NimbleCal open in at least one tab/window.

Snooze buttons depend on your browser/OS
Some browsers or OS versions do not show notification action buttons. If you do not see snooze buttons on a reminder, snooze is not available on that device yet.

Default reminders (per calendar)

When you create or edit a calendar, you can set default reminders for:

  • Timed events ("Event notifications"), and
  • All-day events ("All-day event notifications").

These defaults apply to newly created events on that calendar.

Reminder limitations (web)

NimbleCal uses web notifications. For reminders to fire reliably:

  • Allow notifications in your browser, and
  • Keep NimbleCal open in at least one tab/window (so your browser can run the reminder timers).
Desktop browsers only
If your browser is fully closed, it cannot fire web notifications. Keeping NimbleCal open improves reliability.
Mobile web: reminders do not work reliably
Mobile browsers (iOS Safari, Android Chrome) cannot run apps in the background to deliver notifications. This is a platform limitation. For reliable reminders, use NimbleCal on desktop. iOS and Android apps are in development.
